Darrell D. Massie, Ph.D., P.E. Chief Technical Officer

Darrell Massie received his Ph.D. from the University of Colorado, Boulder, where he specialized in building energy systems.  He has over 20 years of experience in the US Army Corps of Engineers and is currently employed as an Associate Professor at the US Military Academy, West Point, NY and is a registered Professional Engineer.  He has authored 17 papers on neural network applications to include the optimal control of thermal storage.

 Education

·   University of Colorado, Boulder, CO. Ph. D. in Civil Engineering: Dissertation demonstrated self learning neural network-based controller for least cost operation of commercial ice thermal energy storage system.

·   University of Colorado, Boulder, CO. M.S. in Civil Engineering: Thesis optimized a hybrid photovoltaic system to operate for least cost.

·   Colorado State University, Ft. Collins, CO.  B.S. in Civil Engineering: Structural engineering.

 Professional Experience

·   2000 - Present  Chief Technical Officer, Massie + Massie Consulting Engineers, West Point, New York.  Conduct research and software development for advanced energy systems.

·   1998 - Present  Associate Professor, Department of Civil and Mechanical Engineering, United States Military Academy, West Point, New York.  Conduct research and teach undergraduate courses in heat transfer, thermodynamics, controls, and advanced energy systems.

·   1979 - Present  Commissioned officer US Army Corps of Engineers,  Commissioned officer in a wide variety of positions requiring resource allocation, program management, team building and personnel management, program assessment, logistical support and operations.

·   1977-1979: Design Engineer, M & I Consulting Engineers, Inc., Fort Collins, CO, Design and field engineer for the construction of the water distribution with duties including contractor quality control, field design, laboratory testing, field instrumentation installation and project monitoring and documentation.
